10am-2pm. Saturday, May 12. Fauquier County Parks and Rec invites everyone to help Celebrate Schoolhouse #18. This a free event that will celebrate Schoolhouse #18 in Marshall. Schoolhouse #18 is the only surviving, unmodified one-room schoolhouse in Fauquier County and a witness to the history and progress of Virginia’s free public education system. Schoolhouse #18 was then closed in 1963, but with the help of community groups and former students it was renovated, restored and maintained. Pat Downey head of history department for Fauquier County Public Schools will have a special presentation for the children of our community, Cynthia Malinick of the National Trust for Historic Preservation will speak on preservation, Dr. Jonathan Lewis the Superintendent of Schools will moderate a panel presentation of the evolution of education of Fauquier County, and there will be more activities throughout the day for children. Everyone is welcome, parking is limited so please park at Northern Fauquier Community Park next door. http://www.fauquiercounty.gov/government/departments/ParksRec/index.cfm
